This is a proud moment for us, for me. Today we finish our comps presentation. three days, 21 students,absolutely the feast of the year! Good jobs, guys!still remember what I said in my first presentation:  “After I came to Vancouver for 3 month, I realized, the only thing I gained is weight, and I gained 20 pounds.”  After one and half year’s study as a master in the field Education, I have to say: physically, I am still the same me with the extra 20 pounds. But mentally, I gained more than 20 pounds. And we know 20 pounds will make a total difference in a physical look, not to mention a mental one. But after one and a half year’s study, we made a lot of transformations: identity, food, life style, language. Maybe people will stereotype international students like dependent, unfriendly. But facts have told you: We are the best! 

Hello, everyone, today I found a very informative video clip from youtube. And we know youtube can be a major source of digital literacy. However, there are lots of commercials today which don’t have any audial or visual literacies. But the values and thoughts the commercials want to express can be a hidden literacy. like this commercial.

The amount of technology misuse and abuse is at an all time high since the introduction of the microchip. Teachers see students out of control. Students see teachers and parents who know very little about using technology in innovative and creative ways. Schools respond to student inappropriate behavior by implementing acceptable use policies. The situation of misuse and abuse of technology, especially internet demands an intelligent, “teaching” response. We cannot legislate appropriate technology behavior, what we can do is to teach appropriate behavior. This “teaching solution” is called Digital Citizenship.

“sociologists have determined with every new technology there has been a lag between the time it is introduced and the point where it becomes mainstreamed into society ( krotz, 2003)”. The recent wave of digital technologies has left our society gasping for air. When we begin to understand one technology, another new one comes along. In the past, it has been the adults who have taken the hold of technology and passed down the knowledge to the next generation. With the tsunami-like nature of new digital technologies, children are learning to use technology at the same time as adults. And this leads to misunderstandings and uncertainties of how technologies can or should be used.

So, “digital citizenship” is still very new.  But as future educators, we should be aware of this situation. With the new emergence of new technologies, we are facing greater chanllenges before. how can we protect our students from violence and course language? And I believe the technology will bring consumerism to school.  Giroux (2000) warns us that “It is time to recognize that the true tutors of our children are not school teachers or university professors but filmmakers, advertising executives and pop culture purveyors. Disney does more than Duke, Spielberg outweighs Stanford, MTV trumps MIT.” In this case, how can our curriculum respond?

Welcome to “i “era.  This is an internetized world. One of the significant changes with the digital revolution is a person’s ability to communicate with other people. In the 19th century, forms of communication were limited. In the 21st century, forms of communication have exploded to offer a wide variety of choices (e.g., e-mail, cellular phones, instant messaging) the expanding digital communication options have changed everything because people are able to keep in constant communication with anyone else. Anyone is afforded the opportunity to access information anywhere and anytime. Unfortunately, many administrators, teachers, students, and the general public have not been taught how to make appropriate decisions when faced so many different digital communication options.

Internet and computer technology are used more frequently in in-class teaching. And the literacy is going through a transformation from page to screen. More or less, people will be exposed to digital literacy more or less. Therefore, learning is not happening in a alienated setting, rather it happens in a social context. SO for English educators in China, it is important for them to have this awareness of considering the internet activities as part of the English learning. Also, teachers have to develop the critical thinking to help students clarify the information from the literacy, thus their digital health can be protected.

Schools are continually updating their curriculum for digital literacy to keep up with accelerating technological developments. This often includes computers in the classroom, the use of educational software to teach curriculum, and course materials being available to students, online. Some classrooms are designed to use smartboards and audience response systems. These techniques are most effective when the teacher is digitally literate, as well. Teachers often teach digital literacy skills to students who use computers for research. Such skills include verifying credible sources Online and how to cite Web sites. Educators are often required to be certified in digital literacy to teach certain software and, more prevalently, to prevent plagiarism amongst students.
